Hungry for More
In this episode, I have the honor of chatting with Dr. Adrienne Youdim, an internal medicine doctor specializing in nutrition and weight loss based out of Southern California. She recently released her book Hungry For More in which she shares stories and science to inspire weight loss from the inside out. By now I think you know, THAT is my jam!
In this episode, we’ll chat about:
Mindset roadblocks that keep us stuck in our health journeys
Acknowledging our common humanity
Mental tools to find self-love and acceptance
I first “met” Dr. Adrienne Youdim through a message on Instagram. She had heard my story on Good Morning America and reached out to me. Her entire life’s work is centered around helping clients lose weight, but just like I talk about so often, she talks about much more than just the eating and exercise habits, but the mindset tools it takes to heal from the inside out.
Fast forward a year later, we finally got a chance to virtually connect.
Dr. Adrienne sent me a copy of her new book Hungry for More. Admittedly, I felt a little skeptical before diving in, only because so many weight loss books I had read in the past were centered around restrictive dieting and tactics that bred more self-shame.
However, this book was different, SO different.
Just glancing through the table of contents, seeing chapters named Hungry for Perfection, Hungry for Self-Love, Hungry for Soothing, I thought to myself, “YES. Finally, a weight loss book that gets it.”
With each chapter, I heard myself in the stories she shared about herself and her clients. It’s not just food we’re hungry for. We’re hungry for something deeper, something emotional, something spiritual. As she shares in her book description, “Overweight or not, our relationship with food is symbolic of our relationship with ourselves, and our hunger for food is symbolic of a deeper hunger that seeks to be understood. We are hungry for connection, for belonging, for understanding and for meaning.”
Needless to say, I HIGHLY recommend reading her book and giving this podcast episode a listen. We uncover my own hunger beneath the surface of my relationship with food, how language impacts our journeys, why we don’t have to believe our thoughts, acknowledging our common humanity, tools to help our physical and mental well-being, and so much more.
